Pair charged in theft of cars and valuables from underground garages

Montreal police have made two arrests in connection with a week-long string of break-ins, car thefts and thefts from inside of vehicles in St-Laurent and Bordeaux-Cartierville.

Ali Bazid and Myriam Forget-Barreck, both 40, are alleged to have broken into underground garages of residential buildings April 19-27 and stole vehicles, plundered storage lockers and broke into cars to make off with valuables found inside.

Surveillance cameras and residents who witnessed the thefts were able to identify the suspects to police.

The suspects are alleged to have stolen two cars, broken into nine others, and accumulated a haul that included $900 in cash, tires, construction tools, hubcaps, hand bags, clothing and stethoscopes.

Bazid and Forget-Barreck have appeared in court to face charges including break and enter, car theft, theft and possession of stolen goods.

Police said their investigation is continuing and the pair could face additional charges.
