Edmonton police say nearly 2,000 tickets were issued this year as part of Project TENSOR.

This is the second year of Project TENSOR, also known as Traffic Control Crime Noise / Speed ​​Reduction, which is a collaboration with various EPS traffic units, City of Edmonton Peace Officers and members of Alberta Transportation .

“Traffic problems, especially noise and speeding, continue to generate most of the complaints that our section receives from the general public,” said the statement issued Wednesday.

During the first year of the TENSOR Project in 2020, EPS issued 1,200 noise and speed fines in the span of 11 implementations. This year they issued 1,821.

This year, members of all law enforcement agencies deployed 14 times for the project.

“We certainly understand the public’s frustration with these issues. Citizens should be able to go to sleep at night without being constantly awakened by annoyingly noisy vehicles around their neighborhoods, ”Const said. Clint Stallknecht, from EPS’s road safety unit, said.

“Motorists must also be able to drive on city roads without other people driving their vehicles recklessly at excessive speed endangering their lives.”

A second part of the project involves issuing “direction notices,” where officers identify a specific problem with a vehicle that needs to be repaired and issue a notice to the driver to present for inspection once the repair is complete.

A total of 464 direction warning notices were issued in project 2021.
