“Our heart goes out to them,” Plante said of the Trudel family. “His loss is excruciating and we are going to do everything we can to find who did that. We want to make sure that our message today is to reassure all the communities here, because we are surrounded by three schools, one block from here is where this cold murder happened. We are here to show our support and say that we will work around the clock to find out what happened and make sure we have safe communities. “

Trudel was shot in the upper body on Villeray St. near 20th Ave. Sunday night and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Police called it a homicide but did not reveal any details of their investigation at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. The victim had no criminal record.

Caron and Plante admitted that the abundance of guns in Montreal is a growing problem.

“We can confiscate weapons, but there will always be weapons in circulation,” Caron said.

Caron said that not only the police can solve this problem.

“It’s not just going to be a police solution,” Caron said. “It will be in collaboration with all organizations.”
