He briefly left the Redblacks in 2015 to take a job as defensive co-ordinator and defensive backs coach for the Diables Rouges de Villepinte in France. After returning to the Redblacks and taking on new roles (offensive assistant in 2016, defensive assistant in 2018, assistant defensive backs/special teams coach in 2020 and linebackers coach in 2021), Bourgon will be the defensive backs coach in 2022.

Greg Knox, the team’s defensive backs coach last season, announced last week he was leaving for a “non-football opportunity.”

“Patrick will do an outstanding job working with the defensive backs,” said head coach Paul LaPolice. “He has experience playing with and coaching defensive backs and our group of DBs will love working with him.”

The Redblacks also announced defensive co-ordinator Mike Benevides would take on the linebacker coaching duties.
