According to our information, a total of four people were arrested and taken to the back of a prison van, which is used to transport people arrested by the police.

A truck from the city of Ottawa came to pick up the cans under high police escort from a parking lot located at the corner of Metcalfe and Albert streets. There were about 40 officers on site.

It all happened hours after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declared a state of emergency. Mayor Watson faces increasing pressure from the townspeople, who are overwhelmed by the honking and paralysis that holds the heart of the city in check.

Protesters called for calm throughout the operation so as not to fuel tension and lead to an escalation of violence. Many of them watched and filmed the scene, which took place over about an hour.

Other similar operations are reportedly underway at other locations in Ottawa’s red zone.

On O’Connor Street, a small group of protesters carrying cans of petrol to refuel trucks were denied access to Wellington Street, where most of the occupation is taking place. Police officers lining the perimeter warned them that they would run the risk of being fined or even arrested.

“We will continue to resist and carry gasoline in two-liter bottles in our backpacks. The police won’t be able to see them,” said one of the onlookers.
