With Ontario preparing to lift the mask requirement on March 21, universities across the province have made the decision to keep it mandatory until the end of the session.

The Council of Ontario Universities, which represents the universities of Western Ontario, Toronto, Ryerson and Waterloo, made the announcement in a publication Friday. Vaccination obligations will also remain until the end of the session, in mid-April.

“There are many places on campus where physical distancing simply isn’t possible…so this is the best option to keep our campus healthy and safe,” reads a post from Western University.

Ontario announced last week the lifting of the wearing of masks from March 21 for the vast majority of indoor public places. However, they will still be required in transport and health facilities until at least April 27.
