Ontario to Announce New Business Support Due to COVID Restrictions | The Canadian News

TORONTO – The Ontario government is set to announce new business support today after introducing tougher public health measures last week.

A spokesman for Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy says details will be released in the late morning or early afternoon.

It comes as the Ontario Chamber of Commerce urges Prime Minister Doug Ford to “consider more grants, targeted support programs and other direct measures” to help businesses and their employees.

In an open letter to the prime minister, House Chief Executive Rocco Rossi says that “countless small businesses” are “on the brink of collapse” due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

New restrictions came into force on Sunday aimed at curbing the spread of the variant.

The story continues below the ad.

They include 50 percent capacity limits in restaurants, bars, gyms, and many other indoor settings, along with reduced hours for serving alcohol.
