Ontario NDP and PC launch pre-election ad bombardment ahead of spending restrictions – CityNews Toronto

Ontario’s NDP says it has never been in such a strong financial position as it is right now, and will take advantage of that to run a multi-million dollar ad blitz before spending limits are enforced.

Both New Democrats and Progressive Conservatives have launched pre-election announcements in recent days, highlighting what they see as the strengths of their leaders and the weaknesses of the other party.

Ads, targeting television, radio and online, are expected to decline significantly next month, when parties are restricted from spending $ 1 million on advertising in the six months leading up to the campaign period before the vote. June 2, 2022.

But for now, NDP campaign manager Michael Balagus says the party is taking advantage of the $ 2 million it has raised so far this year, plus a multi-million dollar surplus from late last year.

He says the NDP hopes to match the Conservatives’ dollars in this pre-election ad spend, allowing them to get their message across widely to Ontarians at a critical time.

The ads highlight his party’s vision, track record and leader, Andrea Horwath, while also running ads attacking Prime Minister Doug Ford and Liberal leader Steven Del Duca.
