Ontario confirms 6 more COVID-19 deaths, ICU numbers above 200 for 7th day

Ontario is reporting six additional deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday and very little change in the number of critical care patients over the past week.

Three of the confirmed deaths were added as a result of a data cleanup, bringing the total number of Ontarians who have died as a result of the virus to 12,734.

Provincial officials report 1,362 patients are in hospital due to COVID-19, however, that number is likely underreported as not all hospitals submit their numbers on the weekend.

The number of ICU patients remained above 200 for the seventh consecutive day, remaining unchanged from the previous day at 212. However, the number of those patients on a ventilator increased to 92.

Health officials reported 4,098 new infections but that number is underreported due to limitations placed on Ontario’s testing capacity.

There were 16,139 tests completed in the last 24-hour period for a test positivity rate of 15.5 per cent – the lowest its been since the end of March.

The province administered almost 21,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday, including 3,761 boosters and more than 14,000 fourth shots.
