One point for luxury condos, zero for the Cogeco amphitheater

Nearly 270 parking spaces reserved for staff and VIPs at the Cogeco Amphitheater will have to be removed to free up space for the construction of luxury condominium towers in Trois-Rivières.

According to the project promoter, “development imperatives” dictated the fate of the parking spaces. “It is certain that there will be an impact at the level [des stationnements]. But people will be able to park in the street, at the Technocentre, for example. They find different alternatives, ”said Hugo Gaillardetz of the real estate developer l’Adresse du Fleuve.

It must be said that the imposing luxury housing tower will have 16 floors.

A real headache for the City of Trois-Rivières, it is trying to find solutions to remedy the parking situation. However, it is clear to her that parking near the door is unthinkable.

“Like Fenway Park in Boston or Madison Square Garden in New York, there are no parking lots dedicated to these sectors,” observed the spokesperson for the City, Guillaume Cholette-Janson.

One of the solutions proposed by the City would be to use one of the vacant but contaminated lots in Saint-Laurent to fill the parking spaces. However, residents of the area fiercely opposed it. According to them, there is enough space in the city center.

“It may be necessary to ask the people of the Collège Marie-de-l’Incarnation to see if they could not put a gate to access their parking lot. There is also the Capitanal building, the Super C and the bingo which have large parking lots, ”suggested a resident of Trois-Rivières, Luc Grondin.

According to the municipal councilor of the district, it is not imperative to replace the lost spaces since those of the city center are never full, even “during the biggest evenings of affluence”.
