One dead and one injured after a plane crashed northeast of Lacombe

One person was killed and another injured after a plane crashed northeast of Lacombe on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP responded to a distress beacon from the aircraft. The downed plane was located in a remote area, near the intersection of Range Road 241 and Township Road 412.

There were two men, a pilot and a passenger, in the plane. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger was removed from the wreckage and transported to an Edmonton-area hospital with serious injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.
