No more cash in the metro boxes

Cash is no longer accepted in the lodges of the Montreal metro since Monday, where only payment by card can now be used.

However, users who want to pay for their ticket in cash can do so using the ticket vending machines found in the métro stations.

Cash payment for tickets will also be possible on board Société de transport de Montréal (STM) buses and at retailers.

This new measure should enable the STM to save approximately one million dollars.

“What our data shows is that there are approximately 4% of customers who would not have access to a debit or credit card, therefore a bank card. 4%, therefore, is a minority of customers, but for these people, the option remains available with automatic ticket vending machines, our sales equipment, ”explains Philippe Déry, spokesperson for the STM.

The latter specifies that STM employees will be present to help those who need help using the vending machines.
