NHL Postpones 9 Canadian Games Due to COVID-19 Attendance Restrictions | The Canadian News

The National Hockey League says it will reschedule nine upcoming games involving Canadian teams due to COVID-19 attendance restrictions in certain Canadian cities.

The league says four home games with the Montreal Canadiens (January 4 against Washington, January 6 against Toronto, January 8 against Buffalo and January 10 against Winnipeg) will move to yet to be determined. Dates later this season when restrictions may be relaxed or lifted.

Additionally, the Bruins-Canadiens game scheduled for January 12 at Montreal’s Bell Center will move to Boston. The league says a recovery date at home in Montreal will be announced at a later date.

Two home games for the Winnipeg Jets, Jan. 8 against Seattle and Jan. 10 against Minnesota, will also be rescheduled, as will New Years Eve games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Ottawa Senators and the Jets in the Calgary Flames.

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ home game Jan. 3 against Carolina will also require a make-up date.

The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks were left out of the league’s rescheduling announcement.

Also Tuesday, the NHL announced that it had postponed Wednesday’s Detroit Red Wings-New York Islanders game on Long Island due to COVID-related issues affecting both clubs.
