NFL Pro Bowl live score, updates, highlights from 2022 AFC vs. NFC football game

This year’s Pro Bowl will look markedly different not just from Pro Bowls of years past but also from football games of years past.

To start, the 2022 game will not feature kickoffs. In the case of the opening kickoff for each half, the NFL is implementing something called the “spot and choose” method.

The winner of the pregame coin toss will get to choose between spotting the ball anywhere on the field and picking the direction play will go, or declaring whether it will play offense or defense after allowing the other team to decide the spot and direction.

The loser of the toss will get the same privilege to start the second half.

This is just one in a variety of potential rule changes that will be tested in the Pro Bowl. The game is used as a breeding ground for new NFL rules.

A change was also made to possessions after made field goal and PAT kicks. Instead of kicking off to the other team, the team that scores will have two options: It can give the other team the ball and a first-and-10 from its 25-yard line; or it can retain possession at its own 25 but face a fourth-and-15, meaning a failure to convert would result in a turnover on downs.

The gameplay won’t be the only thing that looks different. The teams will look different as well; the retired Tom Brady opted out of the game, and Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey will miss it because they’re preparing to play in the Super Bowl.

The AFC leads the all-time series 25-22 and has won the last four game. The Pro Bowl returned to a conference vs. conference format in 2016.
