Newmarket residents trying to bring back family from Afghanistan who fled the Taliban plead for community support

Newmarket residents trying to bring in a family that fled Afghanistan expect a great deal of generosity from the community.

The group needs to raise $ 23,000 by December 15 to move forward with its sponsorship request, according to member Jill Kellie.

She is working with Newmarket resident Abdul Hanif, who is trying to bring his brother Samiullah Hanif and his wife, Brikhna and their children, Omar, 9, Sahar, 6, and Hera, 2, to Newmarket.

The family was attacked by the Taliban and fled Afghanistan a few months before the militant group took control of the country.
