New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs said Friday on his social media that his province has passed the 800,000 population mark, continuing its largest population increase since 1976.
“This is an important moment for our province,” Blaine Higgs said in a statement. “Our population growth strategy exceeds our expectations. We are experiencing higher levels of immigration as well as positive inter-provincial migration.”
According to Statistics Canada quarterly estimates, New Brunswick’s population has increased by more than 40,000 over the past five years, including an increase of 15,000 over the past 12 months.
The New Brunswick Premier also pointed out that reaching this demographic milestone is an important indicator of an economy that has rebounded to exceed its pre-pandemic levels.
“People are looking at New Brunswick from a new angle,” he said. Our province has even more to offer. People have taken notice and are taking advantage of the opportunities available to them here at home.”
