More than $4 million against the decline of the French language in businesses


The financial assistance of more than $4.5 million granted by the government on Saturday will make it possible, among other things, to promote the French language in businesses and to inform consumers of their rights to obtain services in French.

This amount will be shared between two organizations, namely Option consommateurs and the Association of Commercial Development Companies of Montreal (ASDCM).

“The initiatives of Option consommateurs and the Association of Commercial Development Companies of Montreal will make it possible to take concrete action to resolve a now well-known problem: the particularly marked decline of the French language in businesses in the greater Montreal area. , said via press release Simon Jolin-Barrette, Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the French Language on Saturday. It is through partnerships like these that we will ensure the sustainability of our common language.”

A grant of $1.8 million has been awarded to Option consommateurs over a three-year period to carry out its project aimed at informing consumers of their rights to obtain services in French.

The $2.75 million granted to “ASDCM will enable it to carry out its project to promote the French language among local businesses on the island of Montreal by strengthening the feeling of belonging to the language of Molière among Montreal merchants. in addition to increasing the presence of French in their communication tools as well as in the public space.

“Next September, thanks to funding from the Government of Quebec, we will be unveiling a unique French-language learning program in the workplace for staff in the restaurant sector,” announced Billy Walsh, Executive Director of the Association des Montreal business development companies.

An informative advertising campaign focused on promoting the economic spinoffs generated by doing business in French will also be implemented.
