More than 16% of Ontario schools now have COVID cases, with 1,450 cases reported in the past 2 weeks

Ontario reports another 613 COVID-19 cases and no new deaths, according to your latest report released Monday morning.

Ontario has administered 20,454 vaccine dose since its last daily update, with 21,672,304 vaccinations administered in total at 8 pm the night before.

According to Star’s vaccine tracker, 11,197,467 people in Ontario have received at least one injection. That equates to about 85.9 percent of the eligible population ages 12 and older, and the equivalent of 75.3 percent of the total population, including those who are not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province says 10,474,837 people have completed their vaccinations, meaning they have received both doses. That works out to roughly 80.4 percent of the eligible population ages 12 and older, and the equivalent of 70.5 percent of the total population, including those who are not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province now includes data that reflects hospitalizations and cases by vaccination status. Ontario cautions that the new process may cause discrepancies between other hospitalization numbers that are collected through a different process, and that the data may not match daily COVID-19 case counts.

The province reports that 350 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in unvaccinated people, 35 were partially vaccinated, and 159 cases were fully vaccinated. Again, the province cautions that the data may not match daily COVID case counts because records with a missing or invalid health card number cannot be linked.

The province says data on hospitalizations by vaccination status will not be updated on Sundays and Mondays due to incomplete weekend reports.

The province also includes data on COVID-19 in schools as part of its daily reports.

There are 779 schools with a reported COVID case out of 4,884 schools in the province, or 16.08 percent.

There are 135 new cases reported Monday for a total of 1,604 school-related COVID cases in Ontario.

The province says a school has closed due to an outbreak or operational considerations. It does not include regional closures in a local public health unit area.

The province says 22,633 tests were completed the day before and a positivity rate of 2.0 percent.

There are currently 186 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 157 intensive care patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. There are 130 people with fans.

Locally, Ontario reports 117 new cases in Toronto, 70 in the Peel region, 48 in the York region, 46 in Hamilton, and 45 in Windsor-Essex.

Meanwhile, one more resident in long-term care has died totaling 3,816 since the pandemic began, in the latest report published by the province.

Ontario reports that there are no new long-term care homes in the outbreak, for a total of 17 or 2.7 percent of LTC homes in the province.

These data are self-reported by long-term care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. The daily case and death figures may not immediately match the figures published by local public health units due to delays in reporting time.

There is one less confirmed case of the Alpha variant first detected in the UK, for a cumulative total of 146,460 cases.

There are no new Ontario cases of the Beta variant first detected in South Africa, for a cumulative total of 1,502 cases.

There are no new cases of the Gamma variant found for the first time in Brazil, for a cumulative total of 5,229 cases.

There are 37 more cases of the Delta variant detected for the first time in India, for a cumulative total of 18,297 cases.
