Edmonton police officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement handed out 1,426 traffic violations on April 26 during Operation 24 Hours.

Of the 1,426 violations, 1,274 were related to speed, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said in a Wednesday release. Another 207 violations fell under the Traffic Safety Act, including 15 for distracted driving violations and 55 red light violations.

The EPS said one speeder was going as fast as 65 km/h over the speed limit — 145 km/h on Whitemud Drive. The driver was issued a mandatory court summons.

Edmonton police and the city co-ordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year, including Operation 24 Hours, to “improve safety on Edmonton’s roadways.”
