Morden residents should prepare to pay more for water next year.

The price is expected to rise about 23 percent due to the ongoing extreme drought conditions. The city has to buy more water from the Pembina Valley Water Cooperative.

This would mean that most people will pay a little more than $ 13.65 / 1000 gallons compared to the $ 11.61 that homeowners pay.

“The City of Morden plans to increase the amount of water purchased from the Pembina Valley Water Cooperative (PVWC) from 5% (2020 figure) to 23% due to the current drought situation. The City of Morden’s existing rates were established considering that only 5% of total water demand will be purchased from PVWC in 2014, ”the city said in a statement on its website.

This is the first time that water rates will go up in Morden since 2014. The new rates will take effect on March 1, 2022.

While water rates will increase, officials said sewer rates will remain the same at $ 12.60 / 1000 gallons.
