Montreal will ban the distribution of plastic bags of any thickness in retail businesses and restaurants in the metropolis from the 1er September 2022.

From 1er March 2023, the City will also ban the distribution of certain single-use plastic items, including polystyrene delivery containers, plastic or polystyrene vegetable and fruit trays, and plastic utensils.

This was announced by Mayor Valérie Plante on Wednesday morning during a press briefing.

All plastic shopping bags, whether degradable or non-degradable, will be banned from Montreal businesses.
