The November tradition, held in downtown Montreal for nearly 70 years, was first canceled in 2020 due to health restrictions in place due to the pandemic.

These measures will once again prevent the parade, which normally runs through Ste-Catherine St., from taking place this year, said the event’s organizer, Montréal center-ville.

“But don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten you,” the merchant group wrote in a statement. “Despite the restrictions, various surprises, festive decorations and spontaneous activities are being prepared for this winter in the center.”

Meanwhile, in Sherbrooke, the city will transform its annual Santa Claus festivities into a reverse parade on Saturday, November 27. People will be able to drive through Santa’s town, settle into the local Costco parking lot, and see the jolly man while staying in his car. Organizers say that all venues have has already been booked , but in the next few days they will find a way to get more people involved.

To keep the Christmas spirit alive, here are some memories from years gone by: a live interview with Santa on Christmas Day 2016 while sunbathing at Pierrefonds, and coverage of that year’s Santa Claus parade.
