Montreal: Police investigate suspicious vehicle fire


Montreal police are investigating a fire of suspicious origin that targeted a vehicle in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.

The police were alerted around midnight by calls to 911 about a burning vehicle in the outdoor parking lot of an apartment building located on 24th Avenue, near Jean-Rivard Street.

According to the Montreal Fire Department, the fire started on a first vehicle before spreading to another car, while the building suffered some damage mainly due to heat.

The occupants of the building were evacuated as a precaution, but all returned to their homes, said spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Manuel Couture.

The origin of the fire being unknown for the moment, the investigation was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM, while the vehicle was towed in order to be appraised, added the police spokesperson. .
