Montreal police announced Thursday that it has seized five firearms during two separate anti-drug operations on September 8 and 23, conducted against street gangs.

The Sept. 8 operation saw police execute warrants at apartments located in the Plateau-Mont-Royal and Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie districts. More than $ 130,000 worth of cocaine, crack and hashish were seized, as well as $ 35,000 in cash, two revolvers, a semiautomatic pistol and a “considerable” amount of ammunition, police said.

Two suspects were arrested. Jean-François Jeannotte, 43, and Sacha Saleh-Soboh, 40, appeared in court to face charges of drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons. Police allege that Jeannotte controlled the sale of crack in Plateau-Mont-Royal.

On September 23, a search of a vehicle led to a police operation in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension district and the seizure of a fully loaded revolver and a semi-automatic pistol. Four arrests were made. Thyson Roodee Joseph, 18, Luckendy Léon, 18, Wadii Belabar, 21, and a minor were arrested and face a total of 24 charges in connection with the possession and storage of prohibited weapons, as well as violations of a court order.
