Montreal Pharmacist Helps Immunocompromised People Get Four COVID-19 Shot – Montreal | The Canadian News

As the majority of Quebec’s population gets a COVID-19 booster shot, one Montreal pharmacist helps immunosuppressed patients get their fourth.

Daron Basmadjian has created an extremely safe space at his family-owned pharmacy so clients can avoid the large crowds and long queues at mass vaccination clinics.

“We can open at another time, when the pharmacy is normally closed, which is Saturdays for now,” says Basmadjian. “I come in, just me, with the patients, so it’s one on one. It reduces the risk of pollution by anyone else here. ”

The Proxim Arto Basmadjian pharmacy is equipped with C02 monitors and air purifiers, which improve ventilation.

Patients pre-fill out paperwork over the phone. They can return to their cars for the waiting period of 15 minutes after the vaccine is administered as long as they are accompanied.

“This is a group of people who have been forgotten, overlooked and who really feel neglected by many people, including the government,” he said. “This service I offer is something that was an initiative on my own. It should not be. ”

Basmadjian says he felt the need to offer his services to the select group of people because of his high-risk father, who is a liver transplant recipient.

“I said why do I not put something in place that will not only benefit him, but a lot of other people who are in the same boat as him and I kind of just put it there and people really responded.”

Jerry Torchia brought in his 80-year-old aunt on Saturday. He is more than satisfied with Basmadjian’s service.

“He stabs in,” Torchia says. “Mr Legault is asking for help from health care workers or people who are retired or people who can do a little extra and he is doing it out of his own time and helping the community.”

Basmadjian is not sure how long he will offer this service. He hopes the government does more for the province’s most vulnerable population.
