Ministry of Economy of Nuevo León and Cisco promote digital skills


Monterey, NL. The Ministry of Economy government signed a strategic alliance with Cisco Mexicoto promote a free Digital Skills Promotion Program, and create a road map to 2027, with the aim of turning Nuevo León into an innovation development hub.

Isidro Quintana, CEO of Cisco Mexico He explained that the state stands out for its commitment to the future, and in turn the company has a commitment to the country for 28 years, and especially to the regions where there is innovation.

For this reason, they are going to invest in Nuevo León in two short-term programs, to accelerate innovation. The Program for the Promotion of Digital Skills, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship, lasts six months, will be taught virtually and is free of charge for the participants. The only requirement is that the young people are studying at a higher level institution in the state of Nuevo León, regardless of the level or career.

Courses will be delivered through Cisco Networking Academy and include:

  • Introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Introduction to Cybersecurity; Programmability (Python)
  • Essential Network Knowledge
  • Network Certification Route (CCNA 1)

In the second phase, he said, students will have master classes, virtually, on topics such as entrepreneurial culture, skills in change management and negotiation, assertive communication, and marketing.

To close the program there will be a hackathon (solving technical problems in an innovative and unconventional way), in which they will be able to apply the knowledge acquired. The finalist teams will have access to a business incubator, which supports their project.

Participants who successfully complete their courses will receive a certificate accrediting their studies. In addition, they will have access to Cisco’s Talent Bridge base, a platform where the possibilities of employability and establishment of contacts are increased.

The Secretary of Economy of Nuevo León, Iván Rivas Rodríguez, explained that with this alliance they seek to increase the technical skills, literacy and digital development of young people and improve their opportunities to integrate into the economy, either on their own or in a center of work.

“The governor, Samuel García, wants to see potential sectors, such as the Information technologies (ICT), artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and electromobility, that is what we are aiming at, to attract this type of company to Nuevo León.”

“We have the best universities to prepare the talent and entrepreneurs of the future, investors will arrive, it will be a virtuous circle, to become a Silicon Valley”, detailed the state official.

This road map, which will have the leadership of Cisco and the participation of global strategic consultants, will be nurtured from an interdisciplinary group and its results will be shared with the various public, private and educational organizations to strengthen the Development Plan of the state, RivasRodriguez said.
