Migratory phenomenon requires a regional integration policy: Alejandro Encinas

When inaugurating the XXVI Vice Ministerial Meeting of the Regional Conference on Migration (CRM), the undersecretary of the Segob He also affirmed that human mobility cannot be thought from only one edge, but requires a policy of integration at the regional level.

“We face an increasingly complex phenomenon and the response must be comprehensive and shared,” he said.

He added that building bridges of understanding throughout the region helps generate a new narrative and allows focusing on similarities and responses, rather than differences, since migration in the region is complex and the pandemic has had an impact on flows. However, he said, despite the pandemic, migration did not stop, since even the activity of migratory flows has reactivated in recent months, returning to the levels of 2019.

In addition to the fact that, in the region, migrants they face challenges in which various situations come together that put their lives at risk. While the entire region is characterized by origin, transit, destination and return flows that have intensified with the arrival of people with international protection needs.

In this framework, the undersecretary recognized that migration management is an exercise of the sovereignty of each nation and that each of the member countries responds to migration according to their own needs, contexts and possibilities, so that the work promoted They have been expressed with respect for sovereignty, the generation of links for cooperation and development, as well as frank dialogue between equals.

It endorsed the commitment of the Government of Mexico to follow up and promote the conference to continue working on actions that promote equal opportunities, the full exercise of rights, inclusion and the empowerment of all migrants, with special emphasis on the groups that face the greatest situations of vulnerability.
