Mexico launches dialogue with USTR on photovoltaic cell commerce

Mexico start a dialogue with the Commercial Representation of the United States (USTR) related to salvaguardia imports of photovoltaic cells.

United States announces this year’s decision to extend by four years more the salvaguardia applied to the imports of photovoltaic cells coming from 2018.

The fourth clause of the proclamation to be issued by the governing state instructs the USTR to initiate negotiations with Mexico and Canada to deal with the tax burden originally in the year 2018, which covers the imports of photovoltaic cells and the modules of photovoltaic cells that will enter the United States for a period of four years.

In August, the International State Trade Commission of the United States (USITC) initiates a procedure to determine if it should recommend the extension of salvaguard vigil. As a result of this procedure, the Commercial Policy Committee, backed by the USTR, recommends that the President of the United States extend the media by four months.

In coordination with the Mexican industry, the Finance Secretariat Mexico says it will begin negotiations with the USTR to compromise on competitiveness and certification for trade and investment in the North American region, allowing the Mexican industry to continue exporting cellular and modular photovoltaic devices to the United States. en el Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canada (T-MEC).
