Mexican stock market closes with losses after a volatile session

The Mexican stock exchange (BMV) closed the negotiations this Friday with a moderate fall. The local stock market fell after a positive start to the day in reaction to comments from the Russian president, Vladimir Putinabout the war in Ukraine, a movement that lost strength.

The index reference S&P/BMV IPC, made up of the shares of the 35 issuers with the highest value by capitalization and liquidity in Mexico, moved -0.16% to finish with 53,300.70 points. Compared to 53,322.05 units last Friday, the main Mexican stock index fell -0.04 percent.

Within the benchmark index, most components ended the day in negative territory, with 22 in red and 13 in green. The worst performances of the session were those of Peñoles and Volaris, over -5 percent. Outside the leading index, Aeromécio’s stock lost more than 10 percent.

Schedule change

The Mexican Stock Exchange will advance its hours of operation as of Monday, in order to standardize it with that of the US markets, due to a gap between the dates of the time change in Mexico and the United States. From March 14 to April 1, the session will start at 7:30 a.m. and close at 2:00 p.m.
