Mercado Libre shares rise almost 7% after reporting profits of 83 million dollars during 2021


The actions of the Latin American marketplace Mercado Libre registers an increase of 6.72% in the session this Wednesday, after having reported net attributable profit of $83.3 million (74 million euros), compared to losses a year earlier.

The company’s shares are listed on the US Nasdaq at a unit price of 947.52 dollars, almost 60 dollars more than in the last session.

The company has closed 2021 with a total of 139.5 million unique assets, seven million more than in 2020; with a net turnover of 7,069 million dollars (6,251 million euros), 78% more than the previous year.

The company’s financial director, Pedro Arnt, has highlighted that despite the constant challenges throughout the year (inflation, pandemic, supply problems), the company has achieved record results in all areas, as well as strong growth and an improvement in margins and operating income for the second year in a row.

With regard to the fourth quarter, the company recorded a net loss attributed to 46.1 million dollars (41 million euros), lower by 8.8% than those recorded during the same period of the previous year. However, the turnover of the ‘marketplace’ was boosted 74% between October and December, up to 853 million dollars (754 million euros).

Both in dollars and in local currency, the group reported growth in all its markets (Brazil, Argentina, Mexico) above 50% during the fourth quarter.
