Man with weapon killed as Vancouver police open fire


A man in his 40s died at the Patricia Hotel on Hastings Street after police fired gun shots.

A man who police said was carrying a weapon was shot and killed Thursday during a confrontation with Vancouver police in the Downtown Eastside.

The Independent Investigations Office is investigating.

The Vancouver police said officers responded to a complaint at the Patricia Hotel in the 400-block of East Hastings Street shortly after 4 pm

Police said in a statement that officers were confronted by a man. Shots were fired, and a man in his 40s died.

In a news release Friday, the IIO said the man was reported to have a weapon.
