Police said shortly after midnight on Monday, officers conducted a traffic stop on a GMC Terrain after police noticed the vehicle’s license plate was “obscured.”

While speaking with the driver and passenger of the vehicle, officers from the Gang Suppression Team (GST) under the Edmonton Police Service’s organized crime branch, identified the passenger as a 28-year-old wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching conditions.

Officers instructed the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle, at which time the passenger indicated he was in possession of a gun. Police said a loaded and modified 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition were located on the suspect.

The suspect did not possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License and the gun’s serial number had been removed, the Edmonton police said.

Suede Batoche is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm knowing its serial number is defaced, possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle and possession contrary to order, police said.
