Man shot ‘more than once’ in downtown Montreal

A 33-year-old man was fighting for his life in hospital Thursday after being shot multiple times on a downtown street Wednesday night.

Montreal police said a 911 call was received reporting the incident at 9:50 p.m., and first responders were dispatched to the corner of des Érables and Sherbrooke Sts. near the Lafontaine park in the Ville-Marie district.

Police found the victim on the ground, unconscious and wounded by “more than one” gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was taken to hospital and remained in critical condition early Thursday morning.

No arrests have been made, although the police are said to have a suspect. A crime scene was set up at the scene of the shooting and a canine unit was deployed in an effort to locate clues while investigators question witnesses.
