A man is in the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound after being shot in his vehicle with his 9-year-old son in the back seat, according to the Coquitlam Mounted Police.
The boy was completely unharmed.
The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, at Chickadee Place near Pinetree Way.
A silver sedan was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting, according to police.

The Major Crimes Section of the Coquitlam RCMP has taken over the investigation.
Police believe the attack was not random, but said it is too early to determine whether it may be related to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“As you can see, this incident occurred just over 24 hours ago and it is too early to speculate on motives or associations,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Paige Kuz in a written statement Sunday afternoon. “We know this is a disturbing event in our community and we are working diligently to gather facts and evidence so that we can find those responsible for this incident.”
A burned-out vehicle was found shortly after the shooting in a Port Moody cul-de-sac, north of Eagle Ridge Hospital, but it is not yet known whether police believe it is related to the attack.
