The Waterloo Regional Police have filed a charge of attempted murder in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this month on a trail in Kitchener.
Police say officers were called to a trail near Riverbend Drive on Sept. 8 around 8:10 p.m. after a woman was reported in need of medical assistance.

Emergency services personnel found a woman with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Paramedics took her to an area hospital for treatment.
Police allege the injuries were caused by assault and said the victim knew her assailant.

They say the suspect fled the area, but was quickly located by police.
A 32-year-old Kitchener man was initially charged with a series of crimes, including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, strangulation and making threats, but a charge of attempted murder was also filed Monday.
