Kelowna RCMP Const. Solana Pare says in a statement that Mounties and area emergency and rescue teams responded to the Postill Lake area after receiving a distress signal early Saturday from a global positioning system.

Pare says a 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a second man of the same age was flown to hospital in serious and life-threatening condition.

Members of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, Vernon Search and Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services also responded to the distress signal from the remote and rural forest area.

Pare says the RCMP is investigating the cause of the accident, but that Mounties or BC Coroners Service will not release any other information about the people involved due to privacy concerns.

Postill Lake is located in a mountainous area about 30 miles northeast of Kelowna.
