A 43-year-old man was taken into custody after the New Brunswick Mounted Police responded to a report of gunfire in Central Blissville, about 50 miles south of Fredericton, on Friday night.

Just after 8pm, RCMP tweeted that they were responding to a police operation on Duplissea Road between Route 785 and Gore Road and asked people to stay out of the area.

At around 5 a.m. on Saturday, they issued another tweet saying the operation had been safely concluded, but did not provide further details.

An RCMP spokesperson told Global News on Saturday that police were called to the area around 6:10 p.m. Friday for gunfire. No one was injured, but some residents were asked to evacuate.

He said the situation reached a peaceful resolution and a man was detained.

Despite the shooting report, the RCMP determined that the situation did not meet the criteria for a ready alert message.

There is no other information on the suspect or possible charges as the matter is still under investigation.
