Man accused of setting woman ablaze on bus to make court appearance

A man who allegedly set a woman on fire on a TTC bus will appear in court on Monday on charges which include attempted murder.

Toronto Police alleged that a man poured a flammable liquid on a woman and set her ablaze on a bus in the Kipling Ave.-Dundas St. area on June 17. The man then left the area.

Police said investigators consider the case to be a suspected hate-motivated offense.

Tanzin Norbu, 33, of Toronto, faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a weapon, mischief over $5,000 and being a common nuisance endangering lives.

Norbu is scheduled to appear in a courtroom at 2201 Finch Ave. W. on Monday.

Man charged after severely burned woman dies

Charges are pending against a 38-year-old Toronto man after a severely burned woman died from her injuries.

Police located a man and Henrietta Viski, 37, of Toronto, after emergency personnel responded to a fire in the Victoria Park-Finch Aves. area on June 17. Both were suffering from burns and taken to hospital.

Viski died in hospital on June 18.

Norbert Budai, 38, of Toronto, has been arrested.

SEX ASSAULT:

A Good Samaritan tried to intervene when a woman was sexually assaulted on a downtown street, according to Toronto Police.

A man approached a 33-year-old woman on Bay St., north of Gerrard St., and sexually assaulted her on June 1, according to police.

A Good Samaritan who came to her assistance was also assaulted by the man.

The suspect is described as having a medium build, long brown hair and was last seen carrying a food delivery backpack, and wearing dark-coloured clothing and a light-coloured cap. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5200.
