At the Montreal courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, Alan Guttman, the defense lawyer representing Curtis Jonas, only asked Quebec Court Judge Alexandre St-Onge to carry his client’s case over to the following Monday.

“It’s a big case, and I need to plan and see if we will ask for a bail hearing,” Guttman told the judge.

On Monday, Jonas was ordered to undergo a quick mental health assessment to see if he is able to understand court proceedings. No mention was made of the results of the assessment on Tuesday, but apparently Jonas is able to comprehend things like the fact that he is charged with a crime.

He was not required to appear in person in court on Tuesday.

Jonas, a 42-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault and being in possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with having violated a probation order from a previous case.
