Kelowna RCMP say the stabbing on Monday night apparently followed a “verbal altercation” between the suspect and the 38-year-old victim.

Police received multiple 911 calls around 8:45 pm about the injured man at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Gordon Drive. The man was taken to hospital where he died.

RCMP say a 28-year-old man passed by was also injured during the altercation, but suffered only a minor injury and has been treated and released from hospital.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.

Serious crime investigators “have learned there was a verbal altercation between the individuals involved that led to the stabbing,” said RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Tammy Lobb. “The victims and suspect were not known to one another.”

Any witnesses or those with dash-cam footage are asked to get in touch with the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300, or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestoppers.net.
