On Monday the airline had said its “systems provider is experiencing a network-wide system issue which has impacted check-in and boarding, resulting in ongoing flight delays for a number of Sunwing flights.” That led to all kinds of cancellations and countless delays.

The problem was not solved in time for Tuesday. Massive lineups were seen at Pearson Airport all day.

Sunwing tweeted: “While our systems provider continues to work on resolving the system outage, we continue to manually process as many flights as possible but expect further delays. Please note that all impacted passengers with flight delays over three hours will be compensated.”

Some travelers have said they were stranded in locations like Mexico.

As delays continued at Pearson, in a statement Tuesday Sunwing said: “Our team has been working day and night to find alternate ways to get customers to their destination or on return flights home. We have successfully processed upwards of 15 flights manually since yesterday, with the goal to manually process as many more flights as possible today, subject to airport restrictions, curfews and any required crew reassignments,” they said.

Impacted customers were given a link by Sunwing as to how to claim compensation.

According to the Canadian Transportation Associationif flight delays are within the airlines control, customers must be kept informed, provided with assistance, offered alternate travel arrangements or a refund and paid compensation for inconvenience.

Sunwing is classified as a small carrier by the CTA, so compensation would be lower ($125 if the passenger arrives three or more hours late, but less than six hours; $250 if the passenger arrives six or more hours late, but less than nine hours ; and $500 if the passenger arrives nine or more hours late, per the site) than if the issue happened on a bigger carrier.
