“There were a series of errors, in particular not having taken into account all the evidence, which were manifest and decisive for this verdict”, lamented Giuseppe Battista, who represents Maison Jacynthe.

Nearly a year ago, the wellness company was found guilty of “acting in such a way as to give rise to the belief that it was licensed to practice medicine”, due to two videos on the “detox” published on Facebook in 2018.

We then saw the actress Jacynthe René, accompanied by a naturopath, talking about health problems in medical language and “detox”. They then suggested colonic irrigation as a treatment.

Not doctor

According to Mand Battista, the judge erred in relying only on these two videos, when there are more than 450 on the Maison Jacynthe site.

What is more, in a video in dispute, the actress would affirm there five times that she is not a doctor.

The company would like to be acquitted of the offence, which had earned it a fine of $19,000.

Otherwise, she demands a new trial, which would start the proceedings all over again.

For its part, the College of Physicians believes that the decision must be maintained.

Judge Alexander Pless has taken the matter under advisement and will render a decision at a later date.
