After a longer-than-planned Christmas break, the Montreal Canadiens return to the ice against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday. Puck falls at 7pm (TSN2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio, 98.5 FM) .

The last time the Habs played was December 16 against the Philadelphia Flyers. They had four games postponed before the holidays. It is the second game among last season’s Stanley Cup finalists. The defending champs remain the league’s toast with a 20-6-4 record, while the Habs are second to last at 7-21-3.

Many regulars will be out due to COVID protocol, including Laurent Dauphin, Mike Hoffman, Artturi Lehkonen, Ben Chiarot, Joel Edmundson, Jeff Petry, Chris Wideman and goalkeeper Jake Allen. That adds to the fact that Tyler Toffoli, Josh Anderson and Mathieu Perreault are all injured. As a result, expect two new faces in the lineup: Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Corey Schueneman.

The Lightning have their own absences from the COVID protocol. Maxime Lagace starts in the nets with Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brian Elliott out. Anthony Cirelli, Mikhail Sergachev, Andrej Sustr, and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare are also on the protocol list.
