Light vehicle exports increased 2.9% in April

Mexico increased its exports of light vehicles to the world by 2.9% during April, selling 241,286 units, encouraged by demand from USA; despite the fact that production fell 6.6%, accounting for 251,547 units assembled by the 13 companies installed in the country, reported the Inegi.

By disclosing the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry (RAIAVL), whose information comes from 22 companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), Giant Motors Latin America and Autos Orientales Picacho, Mexico are at production levels below the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the shortage of semiconductors.

The automotive industry records two months of continuous growth in the export of light cars, March and April, as North America has begun its revival.

Faust Cavesdirector of AMIA, reported that Mexican sales to the United States grew 15.6% last April, by sending 184,082 units, despite the fact that the US market had a contraction of 19.2%, and our country was the only importer that increased its presence.

“This reflects that Mexico compared to the rest of the competitors in the US market has been better, Japan, Germany and Korea have maintained falls,” he recalled.

Ford was the company that increased its shipments by 87%, followed by Volkswagen with 27%, Audi 18% and 12% for Kia in its exports.

For the first quarter, the industry produced 1 million 100,592 units in Mexico, which represents an increase of 0.9%, after 1 million 90,389 units were assembled; 922,278 units were exported, a reduction of 0.6% compared to the same four months of 2021.
