Leaked Jamie Bacon audio: BC gangster laments jail life, ready to co-operate with police

“These guys are all goofs. They all play all sides of the game. Almost every biker is working with the police. OK. I’ve seen it bro… They think that they’re gods, and they are little goofs that need to be locked up in the (Secure Housing Unit) and die with their teeth and hair falling out.” —Jamie Bacon

Bacon, who is currently in prison after admitting he ordered the hit that led to the 2007 Surrey Six murders, is the only person speaking in the 19-minute recording, which Postmedia obtained last week and verified as authentic. The recording is believed to have been made recently and sent to another gangster.

“I’ve learned through this that the game is fake bro. It’s all a lie,” Bacon said.

Police have also obtained a copy of the audio in recent days. And Postmedia has learned that other gangsters are circulating the recording.

Sgt. Brenda Winpenny, of BC’s anti-gang Combined Forces Special Enforcement Agency, said Sunday that officers are “aware of the alleged audio recording.”

“As it potentially involves an inmate within a federal corrections facility the CFSEU-BC will defer to Corrections Services Canada as the lead agency to investigate and manage possible implications within their facilities,” Winpenny said.

Bacon refers several times to his older brother’s friends plotting against him — both by paying people to implicate him in other crimes — including murder — and possibly having him killed in prison.

Jonathan Bacon had just formed an alliance with some Hells Angels and some Independent Soldiers when he was shot to death in 2011. In the recording, Jamie Bacon condemns people in the alliance, as well as the HA and its affiliated Brothers Keepers gang, sometimes using racist and homophobic descriptions.

“These guys are all goofs. They all play all sides of the game. Almost every biker is working with the police. OKAY. I’ve seen it bro … They think that they’re gods, and they are little goofs that need to be locked up in the (Secure Housing Unit) and die with their teeth and hair falling out.”

Bacon said that he’s realized that violent retaliation is not the way to get rid of his enemies. Instead, they need their “power stripped” by police.

“Every giant — every group that got to grow into a giant — only got taken down by 5-0,” he said, using a slang reference for police from the TV show Hawaii Five-0. “Bullets can’t beat these guys… So bullets isn’t the answer. If I felt like I’m getting out soon, and I could kill all of them, I’d be real with you — that’s what I would choose.”

Bacon said that he hasn’t talked to police yet but “these thoughts have come in my head in a real way the last couple of months knowing the truth of this life, knowing the truth of these scumbags.”

He also warned that “if you ever go down this road, you better be successful at it. Same as me. It better be a death blow to these guys.”

Bacon said he has learned the hard way over 13 years in jail that even supposed allies turn on you.

“These people are not worth anything bro. These people are bad f–king people. And you’re going to find this out as months go further and further and further,” he said.

Bacon’s defense lawyer Kevin Westell said Saturday that he had no comment on the recording or Bacon’s offer to co-operate. The associate’s lawyer also declined to comment.

Winpenny said that her agency “will work with our partner agencies to assess how a recording might impact the current gang landscape and continue to take proactive and intelligence lead steps to disrupt and deter gang violence.”

Bacon was first arrested in April 2009 and charged with murder and conspiracy in the Oct. 19, 2007 slayings of young drug traffickers Corey and Michael Lal, Eddie Narong and Ryan Bartolomeo, as well as bystanders Chris Mohan and Ed Schellenberg.

Bacon pleaded guilty to the conspiracy count in 2020 and was sentenced to 18 years, minus credit for time served.

In the recording Bacon does not mention remorse as one of his motivations for wanting to co-operate.

“If I get out, I win because I’m still capable of doing many, many, many things,” he said. “But if I stay locked up in this cell, I lose bro and everyone in my life is going to be gone.”
