Leylah Annie Fernandez, the 18th seed in the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in Southern California, won her second-round match by retirement from her opponent, American Amanda Anisimova.

After dropping the first set 2-6, Fernandez bounced back to snatch the second set 7-6 (0).

Fernandez will face another American, Shelby Rogers, in the third round.
