The person who gained widespread outrage and art criticism for his crudely drawn graffiti vandalism now faces numerous charges for mischief.

Windsor police said Tuesday they tracked down the vandal who signed his defamed graffiti tagged “Kurs.”

“I’m glad they got him,” said Shane Potvin, president of the City of Ford Business Improvement Association. “This is outside the realm of the typical graffiti we see in the city and I think it just has to end.”

“This was so widespread but also so public and in places that were very prominent. So I think it was the culmination of some not very good graffiti, it was all over the place and he wasn’t sensitive to people’s homes either. “

The wave of vandalism spread from downtown to Ford City. The culprit of the skateboard was caught several times by the surveillance cameras of the city.

It has targeted shop windows, bus stops, transformer units, construction sites, the side of a box truck, and even private homes. He damaged buildings with poorly drawn graffiti that usually took the form of a cartoon face or a stick man with a joint.

“He did graffiti on people’s houses,” Potvin said. “I feel like that takes a whole new realm of what you normally see.”

“It is being destructive. I get it when it’s public spaces and I think graffiti artists can say this near or this alley, it doesn’t really affect anyone. But when you’re painting someone’s front door, that person has to spend money to have it removed. “

Between at least September 25 and October 17, the vandal struck homes and businesses throughout the city, including the 2900 block of Tecumseh Road East, the 1400 block of Ottawa and the 400 block of Pitt Street West.

Investigators first arrested a suspect on October 20 for less than $ 5,000 shenanigans for the Pitt Street vandalism, which occurred three days earlier. He was released on various conditions until his next court date.

Windsor police said their property crimes unit continued to investigate and was able to link him to several other incidents.

Officers arrested the 24-year-old suspect again on Monday. He faces nine other mischief charges for less than $ 5,000. He was once again released until a subsequent court appearance.

Windsor police did not release the man’s name, stating that he has not been formally charged in court.
