KFL & A Region Surpasses 200 Active Cases with 30 New Cases Added Friday – Kingston | The Canadian News

COVID-19 rates continue to rise in the KFL & A region, with 30 new cases added on Friday.

For the first time in the history of the pandemic, there are more than 200 active cases in the region, with 213 people currently infected.

Hospitalizations have also reached a new record of 13, with six people in intensive care units and three people on ventilators.

Recent cases were found in all age groups, but the majority were centered in the city of Kingston, rather than the surrounding regions.

The health unit also declared new outbreaks on Friday, one at the Kingston Health Sciences Center with three affected people, and another at the YMCA daycare center in Wright Crescent.

There are several school outbreaks facing the health unit, but the largest outbreak appears to be related to the city’s Integrated Care Center, which has 24 active cases and 21 resolved cases for a total of 41.

Earlier this week, the region’s medical health official failed to implement additional health restrictions and asked residents to simply double down on public health measures already in place.

Still, cases have risen by double digits almost every day this week, and Dr. Piotr Oglaza warned that if cases continue to spread, there may be more health restrictions, such as additional capacity limits, in the region. .
