Gold-Strike started racing in 2004.

She won two of her first three races in Winnipeg before competing on a bigger stage at Woodbine Racetrack in suburban Toronto, Dunn said.

Gold-Strike there won the most important race for three-year-old fillies, the Woodbine Oaksin 2005.

Then, she finished third in the Queen’s Trophy race against colts, who are usually bigger and stronger than the average filly.

During his nine-race career, Gold-Strike has accumulated winnings of $565,000, according to Jim Lawson, the president and CEO of Woodbine Entertainment Groupowner of the Toronto-area racetrack.

Gold-Strike was retired in 2008 to become a breeding mare. Rich Strike was born in Kentucky in 2019.

It’s pretty cool to know that I coached the mother of a Kentucky Derby winner. Few people have done this, no one in Manitoba, that’s for sure.says the trainer at the racecourse Assiniboia DownsBlair Miller, in the stall formerly occupied by Gold-Strike.

An extraordinary two minutes

Rich Strike won with a time of 2 minutes, 2 seconds and 61 hundredths rewarding those who bet on his victory with a payout of $163.60 for a mere $2. He had odds of 80 to 1.

It was the second-biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history, behind Donerail in 1913 which brought bettors $184.90.

During the race, the colt Rich-Strike passed several competitors from the outside of the track to win.

It was the most exciting two minutes! And it was for everyone in Manitoba, that I can assure you. »
