Judge Llarena sends to the Italian court the euro order of the Supreme Arrest of Puigdemont

The investigating judge in the case of the process, Pablo Llarena, has sent an official letter to the representative of Spain in Eurojust (the European Agency for Judicial Cooperation) to send to the Court of Appeal of Sassari (Italy) the euro arrest and surrender order issued against the former president of the Catalan Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont.

The order was issued on October 14, 2019 against the former independence leader. Llarena has also referred the question raised in its day before the Court of Justice of the European Union.

As EL ESPAÑOL advanced, the Italian police authorities arrested last night, at the Sardinia airport, the former president of the Catalan Government, a fugitive from Spanish Justice since the fall of 2017.

The arrest took place by virtue of the international search and arrest order issued by Judge Llarena, instructor of the case of the process, on October 14, 2019, following the conviction for sedition and embezzlement issued against the former vice president Oriol Junqueras and others involved in the unilateral independence process in Catalonia.

Puigdemont, until now a resident of Waterloo (Belgium), for four years, had planned to participate in L’Alguer (Sardinia) in the Aplec Internacional Adifolk, an event sponsored by an association for the promotion of Catalan folklore.

With that intention, he moved this Thursday from Belgium to the Italian island, where he was arrested last night by the Border Police.
